Baldwin boots Kekaulike twice

The Baldwin soccer teams both moved into first place in their respective MIL Division-I standings with key victories over King Kekaulike last night at War Memorial Stadium.

 

In the opening match of the double-header, the Baldwin boys posted a 2-1 win over Na Alii, rallying from an early deficit.   Kekaulike scored first, on an early goal by Logan Bantilan, but Dean Phillips put the game back on even terms, scoring off a corner kick.

 

Mattias Thompson hit a thunderous strike midway through the second half to secure the victory, boosting the Bears to 4-1-2 while dropping Kekaulike to 4-2-1.

 

In the nightcap, the Lady Bears beat Na Alii 3-1 on penalty kicks by Tina Imada and Amber-Lei Madriaga and a long-range shot by Jessica Long. Bianca Rajan scored for Na Alii.

 

Baldwin is 8-0-1 while Kekaulike dropped to 7-1-1. 

 

Meantime, D-II boy's leader Seabury Hall got goals from four different players, improving to 4-0-3, with a 4-1 win at Lahainaluna.

 

On the basketball front, the Lunas two-timed visiting Baldwin.  The unbeaten Lady Lunas romped to a 56-26 victory while the boys beat the Bears 55-51. 

 

In other games, Kamehameha and Maui High split decisions.  The Warriors posted a 44-41 victory in the boy's game, while the Saber girls won 46-36.
